Winds of Change
Winds of Change
By Ben Irvine
Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”
John 3:5-8
When I was a kid growing up in the ’80s and ’90s, there was a German rock band that was very popular called “Scorpions.” In 1991, I was 14 years old, and they released a song named “Wind Of Change”. This song became a worldwide hit. The song was inspired by the band visiting The Soviet Union and witnessing the socioeconomic reform that was happening and a failed coup attempt that eventually led to the fall of The Soviet Union. A portion of the lyrics say this:
“Take me (take me) to the magic of the moment.
On a glory night (a glory night)
Where the children of tomorrow dream away (dream away)
In the wind of change (the wind of change)
The wind of change blows straight into the face of time
Like a storm wind that will ring the freedom bell for peace of mind.”
I loved this song. I rarely listen to secular music anymore, but if I hear the song play on the radio or in a restaurant or store, it always catches my attention. I’ve heard in the Spirit for a while now, “The winds of change are blowing, and the season has changed.” We know there are four distinct seasons that we experience every year in our natural realm. There are also seasons in the spiritual realm that God moves in. When a natural season changes, there are signs of change. In fall, for example, the leaves change color and eventually die. The wind usually picks up and begins to blow. The wind will blow away the leaves that have died. Sometimes, leaves that are dead still cling tightly to the tree limbs. This fall wind will blow and help to remove the dead leaves from the tree so that new leaves can grow in another season. The fall wind ushers in a new season of winter that is cold and sometimes snowy. A winter season appears to kill off everything, but what it really is doing is preparing the trees for new life and growth. There are things happening under the snow and inside the tree that the natural eye can’t see. The tree never resists the wind. The tree may flex and bend in the wind, but it allows the wind to blow.
In the 47 fall seasons I’ve experienced, I’ve never seen a tree limb clutching dead leaves, unwilling to release them into the wind. Why do we? Why do we try to hold onto dead things or things that have come to an end and resist the wind of God that blows on our lives? This Ruach (breath) of God comes to shift our season and carry away the dead things or old things that have no more use. Many in the body of Christ are entering brand new seasons and exiting another season. I want to encourage you today! Let the wind of change blow on you and carry away the remnants of the old season. The Holy Spirit of God is that wind. He will move you into the new season God has prepared for you and bring new life and new growth in you. IN JESUS NAME, I DECLARE THE WINDS OF CHANGE ARE BLOWING!!
